Trails & Outdoor Recreation

Trails and Outdoor Recreation are vital to the economy of Cambria County and the health and well-being of our residents.

Ghost Town Trail

The Ghost Town Trail is a 54-mile rail-trail that offers a 32-mile continuous loop combining scenic beauty with just enough challenge to keep things interesting. Its main stem runs 32 miles from Black Lick, PA to Ebensburg, PA, and connects to the 20-mile C & I Extension. A 2-mile mixed-surface link from the C & I Extension to Duman Lake County Park provides access to amenities like picnicking, fishing, camping, and more. Named after the former coal-mining towns that once lined its corridor, the trail passes by historic remnants such as large iron furnaces, coal-loading tipples, boney (coal-refuse) piles, and other industrial landmarks. Set within the picturesque Blacklick Creek valley, the trail features mountain streams, rhododendron groves, diverse wildflowers, and shaded woodland scenery.

Path of the Flood Trail

The Path of the Flood is a 14-mile bike ride that is both engaging and rewarding, offering a blend of history and recreation. Starting at the dam, the route guides visitors through the former lakebed and along the remains of the dam that failed in 1889, leading to the devastating Johnstown Flood.
